Grand Central Station

WOW today is like Grand Central Station here.  I've got the usual carpenter guys working away, the heating guy came today so he can re-route a couple of heating ducts and the sprinkler system guys are here to start our sprinklers for the season and repair a couple that were broken in the building process.  So lots of noise in our house today.  But things are really coming along nicely.

Had a great time up at Lake of the Woods.  The weather however left a lot to be desired.  We stay at a resort on one of the islands so the guys came to pick us up in the boat and the weather was sunny and the lake was somewhat calm.  The evening was wonderful and I took a couple of pics of the sunset.  Woke up the next morning to the sound of wind.  All I could think of was uh oh - the lake is going to have a real good chop to it.  I'm not a fan of big waves on the water, in fact they make me pretty nervous and hubs knows that.  The weather was grey with a threat of rain and really cool with the wind.  So we bundled up in pants, sweatshirts and rain gear and headed out.  The water didn't disappoint me in the height of the waves, which also results in spray coming back into the boat with each wave you hit.  Sounds appealing doesn't it.  Well I sat up front on the floor and was fine and I even put on a life vest just to make me feel better.  Brian is a great driver, but for me those waves were BIG.  Once you get back into the Canadian side of the that HUGE lake (which is about a 30 minute drive in the boat), it's a lot calmer because it's more sheltered.  Fishing was wonderful for the guys before we got there (they had already been there for 3 1/2 days) and was still good.  We headed into a nice resort where we had lunch and paid waaaaaaaaay to much for another fleece sweatshirt to put under our rain gear to warm us up better.  It worked, but I think we all choked on the cost of those 2 fleece numbers.  So the weather left a lot to be desired but the fishing and company was excellent.  Kari and I are always pampered by the guys and they even do ALL the cooking and cleaning up. I ask you, does it get any better than that?

this is where I sat most of the time to avoid the wind and water spray when we were moving from fishing spot to fishing spot. Kari took a turn also (this is her, her outfit was better than mine).  She's playing with a gps tracking device and marking where we are for future fishing trips.  For those of you not familiar with this lake, it's HUGE and you can go miles and miles and miles and never see another boat (which sometimes I think is a little freaky, what if you have boat trouble, cell phones don't work up there).  Someone told me that there's like 5000 islands on this lake, yes I did say 5,000.  Now that might consists of 1 tree on a little piece of land sticking out of the lake, but it counts.   It's also some of the most beautiful scenery I have ever seen in my life and it's so quiet and tranquil.  While we were there  this time we saw a mother bear and her 3 cubs strolling the shore and looking for food, (Kari got a great shot, I wasn't fast enough with my camera) a  little fawn swimming on the banks of the lake trying to find a way up into the woods where I'm sure Mom was waiting (we did wait to make sure she made it) a pelican swallow a whole dead fish (gross) and a sea gull not to be outdone by the pelican do the same thing (again, really gross)  Last year we saw a bald eagle take a fish right out of the lake (it was already floating). So lots of wonderful nature to be surrounded by and in awe of God's handiwork.

this is were we ate lunch,warmed up  and waaaaay overpaid for that fleece number (but it was really warm) in the past we have always stopped here to cool off in the air conditioning and have a little afternoon cool drink, but not this year, it was heat baby

Of course the sky was blue and the lake a crystal calm when we left yesterday to come home,  doesn't it figure

Now we are going to head to our lake cabin for the next 5 days and have some family time with son #2 who will be home for a few days.  Son #1 won't be able to make it this time, rats.  I like when all my little ducks are home :)

Have a safe and wonderful holiday weekend and will be back posting next week and finishing up the sewing cave so that sewing can begin again.  While cleaning out the cave I've come across a few things for a give away.  Something for the sewer and something for the decorator.  Check back next week.  I'm really close to 50 posts and I think I should celebrate that event.
