Soooo I'm thinking you all thought - nope she's not gonna make it, she won't get that other post in, but here I am my sweet bloggets pleased with myself for getting it done. Really I'm trying to be better about blogging. As someone said (Ms. Amy) it's time for a hip padding recipe, lol. It's just time to get back into sharing and back to visiting with everyone again. I'm so missing the friendships that I've made through this blogging process and I miss visiting with everyone.
I was trying to figure out which post to do, Primitives of the Midwest or the colors of the house. I decided to do the colors of the house because I didn't have time to get the links figured out for the quilt shops we went to on our way to Primitives.
First tho I want to show you a darling gift I got in the mail shortly after we moved in. Actually I received 2 and I will show the other one next post. I thought who sent me a package - then I saw the return address and I started to shake, lol - wondering what wonderful prim goodie was waiting inside - we've done a swap before together and I know what sweetness can come from these 2 ladies. Sooo who sent it you say
- well Ms. Grammy Linda and Kathy from Home on a Hill sent me the perfect plate for the new house
The blog name did change as you all know to My Red Farmhouse - but here at home I call it Liberty House and this plate is perfect for the house and perfect for me. For the time being (because Linda and Kathy know about tweaking all the time around the house) it holds a place on the mantel in the family room, but it's bound to move to many new places in the house
Thank you dear friends - they know it came on a day when I needed a boost and what a boost it gave me :) - I love it and treasure there friendship - always. Now if I could only meet them, lol.
So let's move onto colors now. I was trying to figure out the best way to do this - some of the rooms don't always show the colors the best because of daylight or whatever. So what I decided to do is show you all the rooms that have the same color then at the end I will show you the color cards I made up with the colors and their names. Let's start with the master bath - this color is called Steady Brown and this is the only room it's used in. It started out as Croissant, but once the tile and granite went in it just looked blah. So we needed to go dark brown to match the tile and granite and I loved how it turned out - really makes that bead board pop.
The next color is called Raffia Basket and it's in the master bedroom (this room is heading for a big change but the color will stay the same)
love my star transoms - those are his and her closets on each side. Mr. Farmhouse refuses to share a closet with me, lol
also in the laundry room
no it's not always this clean - do you think I would show you a messy one, lol
and the 3/4 bath on the main floor
hey I stood inside the shower to get this shot - anything for you guys, lol
Raffia basket is also in the guest bedroom and bath, but I'm saving that room for another post - pretty boring right now, but again changes are coming to that room as well. Quilts arrived today for it - me likey them, hope they work.
The color Craft Paper was used in Mr. Farmhouse's office and the bottom of the exercise room
The exercise room has sesame in the middle and croissant on the top
The color Sesame is used throughout a good portion of the house, will start upstairs which will include the, sewing room and another family room (the boy's rooms aren't included in this because they are pretty boooooring - not much going on in there at all - but again it's coming)
remember my sewing closet - it's FULL
WOOL - GLORIOUS WOOL
this TV is now hanging on the wall as of today - hmmm not a fan of hanging TV's, would rather have it hidden behind a cabinet, but it's what the guys wanted and I will eventually have a cabinet built around it - prim style :)
Kari and Brian gave us that cute little clock on the cupboard as a house warming gift
the boy's bathroom
the upper color is called Croissant and that color is also in one of the boys bedrooms and the bottom color is Cardboard
Ok let's head downstairs where you will find sesame also on these walls - hurry now someone's waiting for you to catch up
Ok let's head to the front entryway, remember now this is all sesame on the main floor and depending on the light it might look
darker or lighter
I've already changed out this little table when I took the picture on Wednesday, it's just another little black table but fits the space better and hides that dang cord
also in the entry way is this dresser which belonged to my MIL - this baby is going to get painted as well - someone popped into the picture again - Ms. Cami is everywhere
now will head down the hallway to the main living space - oops that cabinet needs to be moved over to cover the outlet - . it's amazing what pictures show ya when you look at them
main floor family room
eating area
the kitchen - which can I say I love and don't mind whipping up "vittles" as my mother tother calls cooking - there's someone's butt in the picture again - she's everywhere
let's mosey down the hall to the mudroom area
yes honey Mommy's almost done, then we can go outside and play
Ok last color and last room. The color is Cardboard and it's what we call the sunroom
there will be a quilt hanging from that rake eventually
So there you go for all of those interested in the colors. I clipped a corner out of each of my tag board samples so you can really tell the difference in the colors - but I never made a sample of Craft Paper from the office and Steady Brown from the bathroom. All of my paint came from Sherwin Williams. I just couldn't get a great picture of these little tags to really show the true color - hopefully you can get the idea - the colors are really richer and deeper than they show here -sorry I did my best :)
The wood work is just an off white, although it's a custom color to match my kitchen cupboards. The paint on the island and the fireplace and book shelves is a factory finish so I can't give you those colors either.
Hope this answers everyone who had questions regarding my colors. I love these colors in that they give warmth and color to a room, but really are a neutral in that just about any color goes with it.
Work here is pretty much done now and it's quiet - the pergola was the last big thing and it's done
I love how it softens the back of the house and I just love the outside in general
So now that I took these last few days to really dig in and get things arranged I feel like things are really clicking now. Our home is far far from finished. Lots to tweak, move (heck things have moved since I took these pics 2 days ago) shift around, furniture to paint, pictures to hang and rugs and accessories to look for. But now I feel like I have a plan somewhat for each room and that's HUGE isn't it. My notebook is handy for jotting down ideas and inspiration. I was starting to think I wouldn't find my mojo again. I couldn't seem to focus, make a plan or even just make a decision. I felt like I was walking around in a circle, never getting anywhere and feeling frustrated at myself. But this week has brought some big improvements my way and I think I've finally turned the corner or "torner" as we say in my family. I'm now ready to enjoy the process of putting this all together, to not worry or feel pressure about getting it all done next week but to enjoy the process of nesting and making it our home
The process to get to this point has been a long one filled with a big time commitment, anxious moments, some tears on my part, and lots of fun and laughter as well, but it has gone by so fast at the same time - does that make sense. We feel so lucky to have been able to work with an amazing contractor who made this process as pain free as he possibly could, who never ever said "no it can't be done" he always said "will figure it out" who could remember the smallest of details no matter how many times I would forget, who had the patience to work with me with and all my quirky ways, and I've got a few lol, and who also made it fun. He took our dream on paper and made it into a reality. One that we feel truly blessed every single day to have been able to do in the first place. It's good to be done, it's good to be moving forward, it's good to be home.
Until Next Time

Thank you so much for the wonderful tour of your beautiful new home. It's been fun to watch the progress - I hope you and yours will enjoy making memories in this home.

Love your colors... just my style :o) I see some painting in my future!
BTW... we have the exact same kitchen/dining set. I love mine! Except I have had trouble with the finish on top of the table.... don't think it was meant to be eaten on without a placemat!

Hi Karen,
Ohhhh...I LOVE your home! Thank you for such a wonderful tour. I can't wait to see more :) You have the touch for decorating and your color scheme is just wonderful!!! The kitchen is to die for and might I add my MIL would kill to have a sewing room such as yours. She owns 5 machines and a surger. She is in a cramped little area with her material all over the house. That room would be a dream come true for her...hehe.
And what a beautiful gift that you received from Kathy and Linda. Such a perfect one at that. I must tell you that early this Spring I DID have the opportunity to meet them and they are truly very special and kind hearted ladies. I hope for you, that someday you will also get the chance to meet them.
Hope you have a wonderful and relaxed weekend with lots of sunshine :)

This is absolutely the most inviting home I've seen in a long time! There is so much to love about it. The funny thing is it's just my style! I couldn't help but notice a bit of Americana in so many rooms, the bench, the frame, etc. I have my office decorated in Americana and other things sprinkled about the house. We've been talking about putting a pergola on our deck too. I love how yours turned out. My home is red brick with black and white trim so I obviously love the color of your house! The interior colors are so warm too. My home was originally painted in all Sherwin Williams too! They gave us the best price when we built. I can't remember the other things I was going to comment on, maybe later, LOL! It is lovely and that sewing room is a dream come true!

Kathy, you have the most awesome home! I love everything about it. All the colors are just so calming. I especially like the fact that you don't even need window treatments. Everything looks so fresh and inviting. Thanks so much for sharing with us. Enjoy your nesting. Sherie

Kathy, your house is beautiful! Seriously, I just bookmarked this post on my delicious page for future reference when it's time to start decorating our first house. You must be so proud (and relieved) to finally have it all done. Now you get to sit and rest and sew for awhile - whee!!!

Absolutely gorgeous home Karen. It is filled with life and love and you have such a talent for decorating. I wish I had your eye!
We are going to be painting our house and although we aren't using Sherman Williams but KWAL the colors are so similar but brings me joy cause I can't visualize what the house will look like when it's finished. It's funny because in different states you don't have the same paint manufacturers-do to the weather. No I really want to get in and decorate! Thanks so much for sharing.

You sure have a fantastic nak for decorating and picking just the right colours. I'm sure it didn't come easy at times. I really enjoyed your tour and thanks for taking the time to give us a look at everything. The little quilt in the sun room looks great in that spot, I made a second one for me and I love how it turned out. Take care and I really appreciate the effort it takes to get all this posted.

YOU DONE GOOD!! I think that sums it up - YOU DONE GOOD - both with the post and most imprtantly with your Red farmhouse. I did not see one thing I would change. I saw many things that made me drool. Your colors are WONDERFUL. Your finish and hardware choices are WONDERFUL!! EVERYTHING is WONDERFUL. I will be coming back again and again to drool some more.
I am so glad things are slowing down and you are finally feeling like it is coming together and it is feeling like home. I wish you and Mr Farmhouse many happy times there - whether it is with family, good freinds or just the two of you (oops I mean 3 of you sorry Miss Cami!!).
Thank you for taking the time to make this post - I know I am not the only one who has been so excited to see more of your gorgeous new home.
And now I look forward to many more posts, with the Red Farmhouse and the lake as a backdrop. It can't get any better than that my friend!
Lots of happy home hugs,

Your home is gorgeous...I know this took a long time to post, so thank you! And I'm really interested in doing a wool block of the month...will you post on your blog when you are doing another?

AWESOME!! Karen, I know it's been said here already, but I just adore what you've done. Thanks for the paint colors as well. I have two hallways to paint and just haven't decided on a color, but that sesame is really pulling me. I'll have to check it out at Sherwin Williams - BTW, love their paint! It's all that's ever gone on the walls here at my house. Now you've inspired me - got to go move some things around - then they'll be all fresh and new again. Thank you soooooooo much for sharing - keep up your fantastic work!

That has to be a little piece of heaven on earth, Karen. Your home is simply stunning. Thanks for the tour and do I pick my bedroom now or when I get there? (wink)
May you be ever so healthy and happy there.

Ah, sweetie, I think you are finally back! I know that over the past at least 6 months, you have sometimes been stressed but today's post sounds like you have finally arrived at your "happy place". And I was touched to read your kind words of Mr. Contractor. That's pretty special and probably pretty rare. It goes without saying (kinda makes you wonder why I'm saying it..) that you and the Mr. have done an outstanding job designing your home. Well done girl.
That liberty plate is way cool. A housewarming gift? Who'da thought you could do that? Hmmmmm. Well, maybe next week. I'm just sayin.......
Mr. Picket Fence and myself (& Baxter) have been planting shrubs so I'm "off like a prom dress" (who says that?) to put my feet up and have a tall cool one.
Hugs,
Faye
