First let me say a BIG THANK YOU for all of the sweet congrats on the big 30 with Mr. Farmhouse. I so appreciated those and so did the Mr. It's been a great ride so far, not always smooth, but worth the trip :)
So the YAHOO is because I made it here just like I hoped I would. So today is "whatcha working on" Wednesday over at Leslie's blog. I've always enjoyed that and decided to try and join in.
So what did I work on today. Well I spent a good portion of the day in the sewing cave (gotta come up with a new name for it) dealing with all of my wool and the last box of it to arrive - I think, lol
But first off this morning I decided that I needed to finish up the front of the house with a couple of fall things by the front door. Last Saturday I headed over to a town about 2 hours from here that has one of the biggest craft shows around. Takes over the whole dang town and when I say maybe they have 1200 or more booths to shop at I'm not kidding, I'm probably off and they have way more
This is a sad little picture that just doesn't really show you what it's like. Blocks and blocks and blocks, oh and then a few more blocks of white tents. Then rows and rows of porta potties with lines of woman waiting to use them. One of the peeps and I had enough after about 2 hours, lol. I wanted to stop at a booth we had been to earlier to pick up a candle. There was a freakin line way to long to get into the very small tent to just look around - NO WAY, we moved on and headed back to the car. Besides dealing with the crowds it was actually hot. So I totally digressed with my story, one of the things I picked up was this dang cute scarecrow
He lights up at night - loved him and knew he needed to come home to the farmhouse. He was made by the same people who I bought the pumpkins that light up. We both bought one and laughed how we drove 2 hours to buy something we could have bought 20 miles away because they live very close to us. Oh well I did buy a witch, which I'll show you closer to Halloween decorating. So the front porch is done for now
nothing fancy and very simple. There's a basket on the front door with fall floral but it doesn't show up very well.
Here's a couple of shots by the front entry - this piece was made but the same people as the scarecrow - needs something else but haven't come across it yet - for now it's good enough
another little spot - this black frame needs that pumpkin redone - it was done a few years ago and I've never been happy with it.
I'll show you more later in the week
Yesterday I stopped in at the morning quilt guild to watch a trunk show given by Heather Peterson/Anka's Treasures, visit her blog it's full of inspiration. She told us her story about why her company was named Anka's Treasures and then how she started with quilting. I love it when a designer shares her story and background. I've been disappointed in a couple of designers who never took the time. I know I appreciate it when they do. Anyway I tried to get some good pictures but the lighting wasn't working with little silver, here's a couple of poor pics. She's such a sweetheart, so cute and easy to listen to and her quilts and fabric are so much fun to look at. This first quilt she called it her goth quilting period because she enjoyed the darker colors
Now she likes the brighter, fun, funky, retro fabrics and even tho I prefer the darker colors I was lovin her quilts and fabric choices. I took these next 2 pics and then gave up, lighting was just poor
What a fun way to spend a morning.
Here's a great recipe for the crockpot. I'm not a huge beef eater - I like hamburgers, taco's stuff like that. But would I rather have a steak or a piece of chicken, it's chicken every time. Now I say that because this recipe is really good and I loved every bite - from a chicken girl that's saying something. I tried to take a picture of it already done, but it just didn't look very appetizing, so I'm just showing the before pic
you know taking a good picture of food is a tricky thing. But trust me on this one - if you like beef and shoot even if your like me and prefer chicken, this one is a good one
Slow-Cooker Pepper Steak
Gooseberry Patch - Harvest Kitchen
- 2 lbs beef sirloin cut into bite-size strips
- garlic powder to taste
- 3 T vegetable oil
- 1 cube beef bouillon
- 1/4 cup hot water
- 1 T cornstarch
- 1/2 cup onion chopped
- 2 green peppers thinly sliced
- 14 oz can stewed tomatoes
- 3 T soy sauce
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp salt
- cooked rice
Sprinkle beef with the garlic powder. In a large skillet over medium heat, brown beef in oil. Transfer to slow cooker. Mix together the bouillon cube and water until dissolved, stir in the cornstarch until dissolved. Pour over beef. Stir in remaining ingredients except rice. Cover and cook on low setting for 6 to 8 hours (mine cooked 8), or on high for 3 to 4 hours. Serve over rice. Serves 6, but I think it would be less than that. I did have to thicken it a bit more right before I served it.
If you try it let me know what you think.
Until Next Time

Your fall decorations are adorable-LOVE the scarecrow! Also printed out the Slow Cooker recipe- huge fan of the SC! Thanks - can't wait to try it!
Take care!

Too bad the line up were so long, I bet there would have been lots of nice stuff. I agree a name change is due, your room is a quilters dream come true.
Your fall decorating is stunning and always inspires me, I love this time of year. That recipe makes me want to go buy a crock pot, slow cooked food is so yummy.
Have a good day.

The scarecrow fellow is adorable, as are all your Fall decorations :) It's kinda hard for us waaaay down South to think "Fall" just yet, so I especially loved seeing yours :) Tks so much for the recipe too! I copied and pasted cuz it sure sounds awesome ... and I'm one of the folks that'll choose "beef" over "chicken" any day of the week :)

Hi Karen, your new wool and Fall decorating look wonderful! Whenever I'm sewing and my husband can't find me he says "Where are you, up in the nest" since my sewing room is upstairs. PS I'm a chicken person too!

Hey Karen,
Love your scarecrow! I laughed when you said you drove 2 hours for something you could have gotten right in town. I can't tell you how many times I have done that!!
Also, I am a big fan of Heather's designs. I have several of her books and I loved Rebel Roses fabric line!!! I too prefer the darker colors, but she has tempted me to be more contemporary a time or two.
Happy sewing!!!

Yes a name change is in order. Cave just doesn't do it anymore for that gorgeous space!! Sewing Haven is more like it.
Love all the touches of fall I see so far. I need to get some outdoor decor done soon.
Maybe you drove that far for the pumpkins, but time with a friend is always fun, isn't it? I'd have loved to makde the trip with ya sista!!
And thank you for the recipe. I am planning to try that soon. Sounds yummy!! I bet you could use chicken strips too!!
Looking forward to your next post!! lots of hugs,

Hey Colleen - the people I bought my scarecrow do that festival - if it's next weekend that's the one I know they do. They are called Olde Farmhouse and very worth trying to find. I understand that's a huge festival - if it's the same one.

I love the craft fairs, Karen, but never understand why they have to be so HUGE! Goodness, you get rummy after a while looking at so much! I love what you got - the front porch is adorable! Going to make your recipe this weekend - I'm a chicken gal, too, but Mr. Squash loves his beef, rice and soy sauce - so I'll let ya know how it turns out!
Cheers!

Harvest Kitchen! That's the cookbook I'm in! I think it's page 31..."Easy Chicken and Mushrooms." It really is yummy. :-) Anyway I haven't tried the one you showed but I will now!
Love the scarecrow! Your porch looks great!

A belated happy anniversary, Karen. I love the wedding photo.
The craft festival looks sort of like Festival of Little Hills in St Chas. Only they have more imported stuff these days and not so many crafts.
You always find the cutest thing! I love that scarecrow.

Hi,
I was googling "yellow farmhouse" and found your blog! My name is Linny and I was looking for a color to paint the outside of our home that is being built. We had a horrible fire this past January and lost everything - our log home and all its contents. Anyway, I just wanted to say "hi" and tell you that I love your blog. Your decorating is what I want (and had but lost)....wish you were nearby I would snag you to come to my home and help me figure out some things to do. I love Americana too...our oldest son is in the Special Forces and we are so proud of him.
Anyway, I will stop back by - very fun...your site just made me sigh - it says "home".
God bless you! (Oh and happy anniversary! My hubby and I celebrated 31 years last month.) ~Linny

I am loving your fall decorations, they look great inside and out! Will look forward to seeing more :-) I haven't done any decorating yet, but may do a bit when it gets closer to Thanksgiving in October. The leaves are turning and it's so beautiful...love fall!
Loved the pics of the quilts, I am in awe ~ hugs, kathy
