One of my journey goals for my 2012 is to celebrate each holiday like I used to do in the past. I've noticed in the last few years I've let that "tradition" go - it was just to much extra work. So when I decided to pull out my Valentines decorations - I was surprised that I only came across a couple of hearts and a pillow
I made the pillow a few years back from a Needl Love pattern - but those few little hearts and little pillow I bought a few years ago. So you can see I got nuttin to show ya. I get my love of holiday decorating from my Mother Tother who always has sweet decorations around for whatever holiday is coming up and her home always looks so wonderful. What she said to me this year really struck a cord. She said I love to decorate my house for me - I don't care if anyone see's it or not - I do it for myself. Hmmmmm I think I've gotten away from that. I used to go all out and decorate when the kids were little and even as they got older. But when they moved out of the house I think I lost my decorating mojo. But I realized my Mother Tother was right - it's important to me for that creative part hiding inside and it's important for making my house a home for Mr. Farmhouse and I cuz he always loves what I do. Do any of you out there find yourself "slacking" because it's to much work to do now when no one else is around to enjoy it? Thanks Mom - I don't think I told you that - your kicking my seasonal decorating mojo back into gear. Now I know for next year - heart decorations are limited and needed - into my notebook that goes. Yes I have a notebook for a brain - otherwise I forget :).
I did finally find a spot that I like for my monthly little quilts - you can see there's a little heart on the branch :)
It's above my cupboard and attached to on old window - it works :)
For part of my birthday present my Mom sent me an adorable little girl with a heart dress and she's holding a little set of dangling hearts that's hard to see. She bought one and thought I needed one as well
isn't she's so sweet and it meant so much to me. Thanks Mom - she's added to the heart decor :).
Then you see my adorable little bear with the heart. Well how many of you are familiar with the Vermont Bear Company commercials that come out every year at this time - well this year their big push was a 4ft bear - and how the guy will be thanked in a big way because of the big bear. Well Mr. Farmhouse and I laugh every time that commercial comes on - which isn't the reaction I think their wanting, lol. So this morning when I got up and headed over to get my first cup of coffee there sat this sweet little bear with a cute note. I'm still smiling and chuckling about that - I think he's hoping to be thanked in a big way LOL. We plan on a quiet night at home with a great dinner and a fire. We've got lots on our plate for the next 2 weeks - so a quiet night at home with a fire - sounds wonderful to us.
Happy Valentines Day - I hope you spend it with people that you love :).
Until Next Time
Like you I don't always take the time to decorate for holidays, but I love when I do. Your hearts on the table are so cute. Please show us the center of the quilt!!!!!

I am so glad that you shared your mother's words today. I don't always take the time to decorate but she is right, do it for yourself. Love the pillow and the hearts on the table, inspiration for next year!

I totally agree, I got away from doing it as well....too much work....blah, blah, blah. Then about a year ago, only I didn't have someone to say it to me. I decided I wanted to do it for me. It made me feel good and creative and I wanted those things around me that were from my hand and that of my grandmothers, I started a creative blog. I enjoy your blog every time I read it. :)

Oh, yes....I am the same way now with the decorations but I do need to get back to it because I DO like the decorations myself and so what if nobody else sees them? Thanks to you and your mom for a kick in teh butt about this!

Tell your Mother Tother thanks for the kick in the tush that her words brought for me, too. My kids are young adults now and holidays just aren't as magical as they were when they were younger. But, I realized this past autumn that part of what made them magical were the decorating and fun that I added to the house. So--that's my goal for this year--do more seasonal stuff.
Show us the center of your quilt!

Happy Valentine's Day! I love your pillow and collection of hearts.
I continue to decorate for each holiday...sometimes I tell myself that it is a waste of time but then I realize how much I enjoy looking at all the "treasures" I have accumulated through the years. I have things neatly organized and labeled for storage...our attic is FULL. I still cannot resist picking up another little treat for the house, but I have become very selective. Since I'm past the cutsie stage, I box these decorations up and donate to our local thrift shop.
Remember...IF THERE's ROOM IN YOUR HEART THERE'S ROOM IN YOUR HOUSE...LOL
Busy Hands...Happy Heart

Thanks for sharing your mom's thoughts on decorating for the holidays. I have cut back since my son left the nest. But she is right! we should decorate for ourselves. I did put a few things out for Valentine's Day and have pulled out my St. Patrick's stuff already! It does make me smile and my hubby too!

I'm definitely guilty of not decorating anymore. Maybe when I'm not working anymore, I'll get back to it - I like your outlook, but for now, I'd rather spend my limited time enjoying the dcorations online - I don't have to put them away LOL! Love those cute little hearts and heart pillow!

I feel as your Mum does I decorate for me, I do admit that I did more when the kids were small, but I still get a lift seeing the decos. They're nice to have around :)
Still no snow in our neck of the woods, really can't remember this happening in my life time, but no complaints it's been great !!!
Have a great week-end,
Kathy :)

You are right Karen, it is time to celebrate all the holidays. It seems like when you become an empty nester, it doesn't seem all that important, but it is. It is good to celebrate all of life's little holidays.

Hi Karen,
I am sorry to do this on your blog but I have a question and I was unable to find your e-mail address. When you had your shop I ordered three of the black wooden small qult hangers. It had a shelf on the top and two plain knobs on it. I would like to purchase one more for a friend. Any information on this little shelf /quilt hanger would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much.
