Those who know me well know my love of handwork - which mostly consists of embroidery and working with wool. I also love needle turn applique - although it's an area I feel I could master much better and consistently. So in thinking about my journey for 2014 I decided that there is something I want to learn everything I can and make strides in being much better at, and that is applique and everything about it. In chatting with Anne tonight about applique (among many other things lol) I decided it was time to pick the project and get started on that part of the journey. She's working on Reminiscence from The Rabbit Factory and her blocks are gorgeous. She only has one block left to have all of the center blocks done. Her method of choice for her appliques is the starch method. I got a mini lesson when I was visiting her last spring on how she does it - I wish we would have had more time on that one. Guess I need to go back or she needs to comes here. Anywho that quilt is on my bucket list and I was trying to decide between that one and Bluebird and Berries from Gail Pan Designs also on my bucket list of to do patterns. Then I had a "lightbulb moment" when I realized that I already had a kit for Gail's design that I purchased from Buggy Barn.
Well that was a no brainer folks - I picked that one and ran upstairs to get the first one to touch it and pet it lol. So here's block one and the fun fabrics in the kit. I look forward to working on this beautiful quilt with the fun folky designs and trying a couple of the applique methods out there and testing any new tools I just might need. Gail has such adorable patterns and when I first saw this I knew it was one I wanted to do. So there ya go - it's out there, one of my goals for 2014 - I look forward to sharing my progress with you. I also have another goal of learning something new in the handwork area which I will share another time - I'm excited about that one as well.
See Ya Tomorrow
